Good morning, Jackson.
🏘️ Community
Bob Crechale, longtime owner of Crechale's Cafe on Highway 80, died on Christmas Eve after undergoing extensive ICU care.
The family said the restaurant — a Jackson staple for over 60 years — will reopen on New Year's Eve as future plans are determined.
🎓 Education
Jackson Public Schools use wraparound services to help students facing food insecurity by offering laundry, food, clothing and health clinics.
The community schools work with local partners (such as a church and the Junior League) to support both students and their families.

Fireworks cause serious injuries and fires, and local officials warn that using them without proper safety measures (such as igniting only one at a time and keeping water nearby) can lead to uncovered insurance claims.
Residents should check local laws and their policies to reduce risks.
Mississippi Today released a year in review highlighting the top 10 health stories of 2025, covering Medicaid and SNAP funding cuts and other local care challenges.
The report also introduces its monthly newsletter (The Pulse) for ongoing health updates.
ACA subsidies will expire soon, leaving many Mississippi residents to face higher insurance premiums.
