- ➤ On Aug. 8, Capitol Police responded to a bank robbery at Cadence Bank on Canton Mart Road, but the suspect had fled—officers are now gathering witness statements and searching for leads. FOX 40
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On August 8, the Mayor's office explained the large pothole on Denver Street in North Jackson was caused by a persistent water leak from a nearby apartment complex — City Public Works will wait to fully repair the street until the leak is fixed. FOX 40
- ➤ Yesterday at 2 p.m., Mayor John Horhn held a press conference at Blossom Apartments in Jackson to address the water crisis and recent eviction order + he explained the city's plans to support the complex's residents. FOX 40
- ➤ Water is temporarily restored at Blossom Apartments to give tenants more time to relocate after U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate ordered the service restored at Mayor John Horhn’s request. The Mississippi Home Corporation will extend the deadline until Tuesday—when Stewpot Community Services will host a meeting to help residents find new homes. FOX 40
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported the first West Nile virus death of 2025 last Friday in Washington County. There have been 10 reported cases statewide (compared to 59 last year) and officials urged using insect repellent to limit mosquito bites. FOX 40
