AT&T and state officials have signed contracts to expand AT&T Fiber internet to more than 5,300 locations in Hinds, Rankin, Leake and Neshoba Counties as part of a $30.5 million project.

Police said 39-year-old Gary Burnside stole a vehicle from a Jackson impound lot on Sunday, drove it near Terry Road, and when officers later recovered it at a home on Rainey Road he tried to hide in an attic before being caught—he now faces charges from Byram police and the Rankin County Sheriff's Office.

A federal judge will decide next week if Jackson will face an 11.7% water rate increase that could raise monthly bills by about $8 to $12.
Manager Ted Henifin said the increase is needed for JXN Water to cover its revenue gap even as some residents, like Oliver O’Quinn, worry it will add extra expense—putting more strain on household budgets.
The Jackson City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to urge the federal government to reverse its decision to remove Medgar Wiley Evers' name from a Navy ship that was christened in 2011.
Hinds County District 2 Supervisor Wanda Evers said she will travel to Washington to meet with the president and protest the change.
Interim Third-Party Manager Ted Henifin told U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate at the courthouse that nearly $90 million from the Siemens settlement was not fully used for water and sewer work and that about $60 million appears to have been spent elsewhere — he is now reviewing the fund allocation as the city handles high bond costs and rising rates.
