- ➤ HOPE Credit Union held a ribbon cutting Tuesday morning for its new HOPE Economic Empowerment Center in Jackson, a vacant building repurposed to offer financial counseling and training that help local families and small businesses access affordable capital plus inspire neighborhood growth. CEO Bill Bynum said the center will help underserved communities gain the tools they need to achieve their business dreams. FOX 40
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Redeemer Community Development, affiliated with Redeemer Church, purchased the former Chastain Middle School property in Jackson and will expand its charter school while developing community spaces on the 21-acre site * including athletic fields and a gym to serve both Redeemer students and local residents. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Jackson mayor announced the grand marshal for the Christmas parade — the honoree is recognized for years of local service — and the event will feature traditional holiday activities that celebrate community pride. WLBT News
- ➤ Jackson Mayor John Horhn announced that Dr. Robert Smith will serve as the grand marshal at the Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Friday and parade on Saturday — the event will feature many family-friendly activities. FOX 40
- ➤ Yesterday, Ridgeland officials met at City Hall at 6 p.m. to begin the state-mandated review process for possibly removing fluoride from the water—this initial vote did not end its use but will start further public discussions and technical reviews. Public Works Director Alan Hart noted that the meeting set in motion a series of steps, including an educational session with state health representatives, to determine the future of fluoridation. - ➤ At Tuesday morning's Jackson City Council meeting, Lanier High School's 2025 football team was honored with a proclamation for excellence in competitive performance. The team finished 10-1—its first winning season since 2019, hosted a playoff game for the first time since 1986, and set school records for rushing yards and touchdowns while celebrating its 100th anniversary.
