- ➤ CareCenter Ministries in downtown Jackson is preparing to serve Thanksgiving food boxes to 500 families impacted by the SNAP shutdown today at several apartment complexes and local youth clubs. Volunteers delivered 500 turkeys on Friday and will distribute meals to the elderly, disabled, and needy to continue a long-standing community tradition. FOX 40
- ➤ Nearly 16,000 local families have been waitlisted for child care vouchers after federal pandemic funding ended, leaving centers like Agape Christian Academy in Jackson to cut staff + offer discounted tuition to support care. The state is reviewing proposals while Gov. Reeves requested $1 million to expand access + stabilize services, but a solution has not yet emerged. Mississippi Today

- ➤ Redeemer Church bought the former Chastain Middle School on Manhattan Road from Jackson Public Schools' Repurposing Initiative. The 21-acre property with over 100,000 square feet of space will become the new home for Redeemer’s School and serve as a community hub—with a groundbreaking ceremony planned for mid-December. - ➤ The Mississippi Department of Human Services said remaining November SNAP benefits were issued to recipients with some balances available as early as Nov. 21—December benefits are expected to be issued on time after a 43-day interruption from a government shutdown that ended on Nov. 12. WAPT
- ➤ Downtown Jackson Partners leader Elizabeth Brister proposed hiring a national consulting group to start a rapid rehousing program for Jackson's homeless during a Senate hearing Tuesday at the Capitol. The program will cost about $1.4 million plus offer 12-month wrap around services to help participants gain self-sufficiency. WLBT News

- ➤ Work on the $59 million Flats at Fondren project will begin in January in Fondren, and it will add 234 high-end apartments — with one, two, and three bedrooms — to meet local housing needs. FOX 40
