COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Anderson United Methodist Church in Jackson hosted Day 2 of the Women of Virtue Conference where Dr. Teresa Hairston Jackson spoke and gospel singer Deitrick Haddon performed—participants also joined workshops on prayer and healing and the event will conclude with a worship service Sunday morning.  FOX 40

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Federal lawmakers are proposing a ban on intoxicating hemp products to close a loophole local businesses have used. If approved, the ban will go into effect next November + force some small businesses and farms to shut down while leaving customers without their preferred treatment options.  FOX 40

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mississippi unveiled a new Freedom Trail marker on Farish Street Friday that honors three pioneering African American attorneys (R. Jess Brown, Carsie Hall Sr. and Jack Young Sr.) who risked their lives in the 1950s and 1960s fighting for civil rights. The Mississippi Humanities Council partnered with Visit Jackson to install the marker and preserve their legacy for future generations.  WAPT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hundreds participated in Jackson’s Metro Jackson Heart Walk on November 15 to support heart health—residents walked together to raise awareness for heart disease.  WLBT News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jackson Academy ended MRA's eight-year win streak with a 35–0 win and will play Hartfield Academy on Saturday at 7 p.m. for the state title—other playoff winners include Germantown, Tupelo, Brandon and Gulfport who advanced to the next rounds.  FOX 40
  • Century Club Charities executive director Steve Jent said the board and a PGA Tour team are in talks to find a new title sponsor for Mississippi’s long-running PGA tournament after last year’s sponsor ended its lead role—this effort aims to keep the event running and support local charities with a strong economic impact—and discussions continue as officials work to meet the sponsor criteria required for future tournaments.  FOX 40
  • Jackson State won 28-13 over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday as its trio in the backfield combined for over 350 rushing yards—securing the Tigers’ eighth win of the season. Ahmad Miller, Donerio Davenport, and Travis Terrell Jr. each rushed for over 100 yards—while the team now prepares for the upcoming Soul Bowl against Alcorn State.  FOX 40
