- ➤ Three Jackson businesses closed or relocated as the Arby’s on High Street shut for good last Friday and I-55 North PetSmart along with T.J. Maxx moved to Ridgeland—local notices guide customers to the new locations—and Councilman Ashby Foote said keeping local businesses is important for the community. FOX 40
- ➤ Fayette Discount Drugs closed on Oct. 24 after low reimbursements from pharmacy benefit managers forced a shutdown, leaving customers more than 20 miles from a nearby pharmacy—an issue that local independent pharmacies say costs them millions and calls for urgent reform. Pharmacists at Helping Hand Family Pharmacy report high fees and retroactive changes to payments and are urging lawmakers to address these challenges before more stores close. FOX 40

- ➤ Belhaven University is expanding its STEM research programs with more than $572,600 in grants that have funded projects on nitrosamines and kinases and will give undergraduates new opportunities in research. Dr. Sarah Ariel Kelley received a $75,000 grant to study chemicals formed in reactions and Dr. John Neiswinger got a $20,000 grant to research proteins—an effort that builds the school’s growing STEM offerings. - ➤ The Jackson Fire Department is urging residents to protect their homes from freezing temperatures by opening cabinets above pipes and leaving faucets on a slow drip—measures that help prevent plumbing damage. - ➤ Mississippi Head Start centers face potential closure if the shutdown extends past December 1 — four programs could run out of needed funds and risk stopping services for over 4,500 children and 900 staff. - ➤ In high school football playoff action this week, Raleigh beat Pisgah 42—0 in the 3A tournament while Wesson improved to 10—0 with a 49—14 win over Perry Central. McComb won 68—26 over Greene County, Pass Christian won 52—32 over South Pike, and wins by Forest (18—7), North Delta (21—3), Callaway (26—0) and Forest Hill (32—25) moved their teams to the next rounds.
