COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Councilman Kenny Stokes hosted a water giveaway to help families hit by SNAP delays and struggling to afford bottled water—local leaders are also preparing for the National Folk Festival, which will run Friday through Sunday and collect non-perishable food donations for those in need.  WAPT
  • The Jackson Revival Center Church held its annual Light the Night Community Fall Festival that offered free food, entertainment, and games for kids while ending with a fireworks display. Organizers said they plan to continue the event for many years to help neighbors feel united during tough economic times—bringing hope and togetherness to the community.  FOX 40

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Flowood Antique Flea Market closed after nearly 15-year operation when its lease ended on Sept. 1, and vendors were given until the end of December to move out. Most vendors and owners plan to relocate to a new facility in Canton and hope to open soon after Jan. 1.  FOX 40

  • Drivers in South Jackson face delays as the McDowell Road extension is now reduced to two lanes for a repaving project from Highway 18 to Raymond Road—many are taking a detour near the Raceway Gas Station while officials have not yet given an end date for the work.  WAPT
  • Mayor John Horhn announced an emergency food security response in Jackson to help residents facing food shortages amid the federal shutdown. The city provided $150,000 from the Jackson Pulse Fund — uniting churches, food pantries, nonprofits and businesses to collect non-perishable food donations.  FOX 40
