Roadie the black kitten was rescued from underneath a car in Jackson when his tail got caught in the fan belt—he lost part of his spine and skin but now has a new owner and is healing at the new Downtown Jackson shelter with full recovery expected in two weeks.

Jackson officials announced Monday that repairs began at the zoo to fix long-standing water leaks—problems that have led to millions in unpaid bills.

Wicker Construction focused on repairing one major leak and will address smaller leaks to complete the repairs.

Owners urged Mayor Horhn to speed up a panhandling permit ordinance and fix the slow process for getting a privilege license — a change they said could help keep local investors in the city.
