- ➤ On day one of the federal shutdown, Mississippi officials say the state will not feel effects immediately but warn that prolonged delays could lead to unpaid federal workers, closed national park sites, and challenges for small businesses and homeowners—while key programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid continue.
