  • Jackson State University students joined forces with Luther Wright Missionary Baptist Church and local leaders to pick up trash around campus on Saturday—efforts supported by Keep Jackson Beautiful and corporate sponsors aimed to inspire change and address illegal dumping in the area.  WAPT

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Thursday, Save a Life Day took place in Mississippi as groups handed out free naloxone — a drug that helps reverse opioid overdoses — in Jackson and nine counties. Emilee Shell and United Way worked with city and health officials to spread the drug, which will be free for six months to help reduce overdoses.  FOX 40
  • The G.V. Sonny Montgomery VA Medical Center hosted its annual Stand Down for Homeless Veterans event on Friday in Downtown Jackson—where over 100 veterans received free food, haircuts and referrals for housing, healthcare and employment. More than 50 vendors participated to help veterans connect with essential support services.  FOX 40

  • The Mississippi State Bulldogs lost 41-34 to the Tennessee Volunteers in an overtime thriller on Saturday — the team failed to score a crucial touchdown on fourth down and now holds a 4-1 record, with a SEC matchup against Texas A&M next week.
