CRIME NEWS

  • Three 18-year-olds are wanted for capital murder after the weekend killing of Reginald Brown in Jackson—one teen, Camerious Huff, has been arrested while police seek Dequavious Ingram, Brian Davis and Grayson Jackson.  FOX 40
  • Michael Owens was found guilty on Monday of first-degree murder and third-degree arson after a Hinds County jury convicted him of killing his wife Ebony Owens whose body was found in the Big Black River in March.  WLBT News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Mississippi Book Festival will return to Jackson on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free admission and events held inside and outside the state capitol — including panels on local baseball history and hurricane recovery—while organizers expect large crowds and plan to record sessions for later viewing.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Interim manager Ted Henifin said that JXN Water introduced a new tiered rate system—charging from $6 to $16 per CCF—to encourage conservation and repair leaks, which is now being disputed in a federal lawsuit by apartment complex owners. The legal action follows a more than $400,000 overdue balance at the Park at St. Andrews as the disputed bills continue to prompt challenges over cost fairness.  FOX 40

  • Mississippi State and Ole Miss earned SEC weekly honors after wins Saturday—Mississippi State's offensive lineman Albert Reese and linebacker Nic Mitchell helped their team beat Arizona State while Ole Miss's placekicker Lucas Carneiro was honored after the Rebels came back to win 30 to 23 against Kentucky.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
