ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A woman accidentally shot herself at a home on Woodville Drive in Jackson on Friday — she suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to Detective Tommie Brown of the Jackson Police Department. FOX 40
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Capitol Police are investigating a Friday morning shooting and a man is on trial for killing his wife — Miss Mississippi is competing in Miss America, WLBT reported. FOX 40
- ➤ A person was shot in the Washington Addition area on Lincoln Avenue and Jones Street around 3 a.m. Friday and was taken to a local hospital; no arrests have been made (the victim's condition remains unknown). FOX 40
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Mississippi residents hurried to buy Powerball tickets on Friday as the nearly $2 billion jackpot and $800 million cash prize stirred high hopes—Saturday’s drawing did not produce a winning ticket from the state. Since joining Powerball in 2019, no Mississippi winner has been announced. WAPT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A federal judge extended a temporary restraining order on Friday—blocking JXN Water from disconnecting water at four Jackson apartment complexes owned by Woodlands Property Holdings and Blue Magma Residential—and ordered both sides to submit briefings by September 10 to address disputed billing and water meter issues. The decision ensures water remains on at these properties while the dispute continues. FOX 40
- ➤ Hinds County’s election dispute is headed back to the Mississippi Supreme Court after Supervisor Anthony — Tony — Smith filed his appeal on Friday following Special Judge Barry Ford’s denial of his dismissal motion on September 3. The appeal is seen as a move to delay addressing David Archie’s voter fraud claims until after the next election. FOX 40
