  • A Jackson woman was forced to evacuate her home after a ruptured sewer-line made it unsafe, and city officials said repairs are planned soon for the affected neighborhood.  WLBT News

CRIME NEWS

  • Today, testimony continues on Day 3 of Michael Owens’s murder trial—witnesses detailed his confession to shooting his wife during an argument and his disposal of her body by dumping it from a bridge into the Big Black River as video evidence supports the account.  FOX 40

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jackson will host the National Folk Festival for the first time since 1934 when the free event runs November 7th—9th with music, parades, folk arts displays, and local cuisine. City leaders met at City Hall Thursday to invite over 800 volunteers—community donations are also being encouraged to help the event draw tens of thousands of visitors.  WLBT News
  • Miss Mississippi Anna Leah Jolly, the first foreign-born titleholder, competed on the Miss America stage in Orlando where she danced ballet en pointe and shared her Limitless message to help children see they can have hope.   • Jackson City Council met Thursday to discuss how millions from the next fiscal budget would be used to clean streets and upgrade police technology — councilmen proposed leasing police vehicles, installing cameras and license plate readers, and acquiring equipment to address blight while animal control reported ordering new tools.  WAPT
  • City leaders say they will fix the leak near the chimpanzee exhibit at West Jackson park while planning a management study to decide the zoo’s future. Council members propose setting aside $1 million after budget talks as declining attendance and rising water bills threaten the local zoo—an effort that could change its operations significantly.  FOX 40
