BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Friday, JXN Water and interim manager Ted Henifin filed a complaint in U.S. District Court against Blossom Apartments for over $400,000 in unpaid water bills. Managing partner Tony Little had proposed a payment plan and cited city waterline issues but made no further payments—leaving the balance at about $419,000.  FOX 40

CRIME NEWS

  • Over Labor Day weekend, eight people were shot in Jackson and Vicksburg — four fatally — as police investigated a house party shooting in Jackson and a fatal incident at a local store in Vicksburg.  WAPT
  • A man died in Jackson in a hit and run Saturday around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Abraham Lincoln Drive and Thomas Jefferson Road—Jackson Police said 41-year-old Renardo Henderson was pronounced dead at the scene.  FOX 40
  • Jackson Police are investigating a Sunday night homicide after Reginald Brown was fatally shot at 11:37 p.m. on the 5800 block of Ridgewood Road—officials ask anyone with information to come forward.  FOX 40

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ten marching bands from HBCUs performed at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium on Sunday night at 6:30 p.m., drawing large crowds who enjoyed lively music and tasty food vendors—Jackson State University hosted the event and fans especially came to see the Sonic Boom of the South perform under the stadium lights.  FOX 40
  • A memorial parade was held on Saturday in Jackson to mark the 70th anniversary of Emmett Till’s death, with a procession from Freedom Corner to Lanier High School—led by Councilman Kenneth Stokes and joined by the Fire and Police Departments. Local leaders stressed the need for the community—especially young people—to remember Till’s story and learn from the past.  FOX 40

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A judge scheduled an evidentiary hearing on September 4 at 1:30 p.m. to determine if JXN Water can disconnect service at several Jackson apartment complexes after Woodlands Property Holdings received disconnect notices for nonpayment. The judge also approved a temporary restraining order blocking any shutoffs until at least September 7 — all parties agreed to the order.  WLBT News
  • Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the State Capitol on Labor Day for the 'Workers over Billionaires' rally organized by 50501 Mississippi, where they called for a higher minimum wage and defended public school funding. The event followed the group’s June ‘No Kings Day’ rally and brought together workers and students to voice their concerns—focusing on the needs of local families.  WLBT News
