ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A vehicle crashed and caught fire around 1:20 a.m. Sunday on Ridgewood Road — Jackson Fire Department, police, and AMR responded to the scene while details on injuries remain unknown.  FOX 40

CRIME NEWS

  • A 48-year-old man named Roosevelt Denson Jr. died from a gunshot wound after an overnight shooting on Dogwood Trail in Jackson—police said three others were injured and taken to local hospitals.  WAPT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ten HBCU marching bands competed in Jackson's annual Labor Day Battle of the Bands+held at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Fans enjoyed a Fan Fest with food trucks and live music, and many cheered as Jackson State University’s Sonic Boom of the South led the performance.  FOX 40
  • On Saturday morning, a memorial parade in Jackson honored the 70th anniversary of Emmett Till’s death as cars moved from Freedom Corner to Lanier High School—organizers included Councilman Kenneth Stokes and local fire and police departments. Speakers stressed Till’s role in sparking the civil rights movement and urged youth to learn their history.  FOX 40
