COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Councilman Kenneth Stokes led a memorial parade on Saturday in Jackson to honor Emmett Till on the 70th anniversary of his death—starting at Freedom Corner and ending at Lanier High School as families, community leaders, and members of the Till family paid tribute to the legacy that sparked the Civil Rights Movement.  WAPT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 36-year-old man was struck and killed by a Canadian National Railway train on Livingston Road and Ridgeway Street in Jackson—Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard said police are investigating and will release his identity only after next of kin are notified.  WLBT News

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities arrested 35-year-old Matthew Kidd early Friday morning at a Brandon hotel—he was wanted for two homicides in Rankin County and faces charges of murder, two counts of home invasion, and weapon possession by a convicted felon.  FOX 40

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday, Jackson Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes hosted a memorial parade from Freedom Corner to Lanier High School to honor the 70th anniversary of Emmett Till’s death — the Jackson Fire Department and Jackson Police Department led the procession as community leaders stressed the need to remember this historic event and pass its lessons on to younger generations.  FOX 40

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • JXN Water and interim manager Ted Henifin filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court against Blossom Apartments for about $419,000 in unpaid water bills after shutting off service for nonpayment. The complaint says manager Tony Little repeatedly did not pay the bills even after a payment plan—Blossom now faces a legal battle over the debt.  FOX 40
  • A lawsuit filed last week says the state treated Jackson unfairly by limiting ARPA funds and adding extra rules — a move that has hurt the city’s water system. The suit says these policies led to higher water bills and even water shutoffs — issues that have directly affected many local residents.  FOX 40

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jackson State Tigers beat Hampton Pirates 28-14 in their season opener as the team kicked off a back-to-back championship journey—running back Miller rushed for 172 yards and scored two touchdowns, including a 76-yard run.  WLBT News
