  • Riverside Collective, a worker-owned coffee and ice cream bar, opened on July 12 in south Jackson to teach high school students business skills—co-founder Vilas Annavarapu said the renovated building was chosen to spur economic opportunity as local stores closed.  Mississippi Today

CRIME NEWS

  • The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has issued a Silver Alert for 60-year-old Elery Leo Jones who was last seen on Aug. 19 at 11 a.m. near Monaco Street in Hinds County—he suffers from a medical condition that may impair his judgement.  FOX 40
  • A 4-year-old boy died in Jackson on Monday when his body was recovered from an apartment complex on Greenfield Avenue — a woman was detained at the scene and his body will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death.  WLBT News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bluesky blocked access in Mississippi after a state law from 2024 required users to verify their age, which the platform said forces sensitive data collection and harms free speech—Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch defended the law as a measure to protect young people from online harm.  Mississippi Today
  • Councilman Ashby Foote said water should not be turned off at apartment complexes because it punishes tenants—he urged JXN Water to seek court action against delinquent landlords and noted Judge Wingate ordered water restored at Tracewood Apartments.  FOX 40
