  • Jackson resident Bonnie Jones won this year’s St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway—her prize is a new home in Flowood valued at $525,000. The giveaway raised $1.4 million from 14,000 ticket sales to support children’s cancer research.  FOX 40

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Jackson Fire Department responded just before 12 p.m. Thursday to a fire at the Exxon gas station on Highway 80 and Robinson Road — an employee noticed flickering lights before flames appeared, no one was hurt, and the cause is under investigation.  WAPT

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities are searching for 10-year-old Gorgeuss McGrew who was last seen at the Fredrica Avenue and Saint Charles Street intersection in Jackson around 7 a.m. Thursday and may be with her non-custodial mother Dessan Riley—who was seen driving a blue Honda Accord and may have headed to New Orleans.  WAPT
  • The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has issued a Missing-and-Endangered notification for 10-year-old Gorgeuss McGrew who was last seen at 7 a.m. on Aug. 14 near Fredrica Avenue and Saint Charles Street in Hinds County wearing a blue shirt and blue pants and who may be with her 28-year-old non-custodial mother Dessan Riley described as 5-foot-7 and 190-pound and last seen driving a new blue Honda Accord toward New Orleans; anyone with information should call Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234.  FOX 40
  • An attorney, Guy N. Rogers, was banned from practicing law after the Mississippi Supreme Court accepted his resignation from the Bar and revoked his license—he must notify all clients and affected courts within 30 days to avoid potential contempt charges.  FOX 40
  • Jackson Police arrested the suspect in a bank robbery last week after a joint operation with Capitol Police and Homeland Security—he has been formally charged and remains in custody.  WAPT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday refused to block Mississippi's social media age verification law that requires users to confirm their ages, allowing it to go into effect as legal challenges continue + Attorney General Lynn Fitch said the law is designed to protect young people from online harm.  FOX 40
  • On Tuesday, the Jackson City Council amended city code to strengthen penalties for illegal dumping by imposing a minimum of 32 days jail time and allowing vehicle seizures if used in dumping — the new ordinance went into effect immediately.  FOX 40
