CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Capitol Police are investigating a mass shooting near a nightclub at North Mart Plaza where eight people aged 21 to 40 were shot shortly before midnight on Aug. 11 — one victim is in critical condition and the others were treated for less severe injuries, with no arrests made. WAPT
- ➤ Police investigated an overnight shooting on the 1300 block of Dorgan Street—linked to multiple partygoers from a house party on Scanlon Drive—believed to be retaliation for a previous homicide. FOX 40
- ➤ On Aug. 1, Jackson Police responded to a shooting at a Shell gas station on Robinson Street that left 30-year-old Shawn L. Crenshaw dead, and on Aug. 8, suspect Corey McLaughlin was charged with his murder as the investigation continues. FOX 40

- ➤ Jackson State University welcomed freshmen and transfer students on move-in day Saturday as alumni and Pearl Street AME Church members offered bottled water support at the dorms—classes will begin Monday, August 18. FOX 40

- ➤ Local officials set a deadline for tenants at Blossom Apartments to move out amid water issues+ Mayor Horhn held a water crisis conference on Aug. 9 to discuss next steps for safe relocation. WLBT News
- ➤ Gov. Tate Reeves announced a $134.9 million federal plan to help rebuild homes and repair roads after the storms in 2023 and 2024 — the funds will support housing, infrastructure, and economic aid in counties including Jackson and Silver City. HUD finalized the plan on July 31 — and the state will complete a grant agreement within 30 days so recovery work can begin. WAPT
- ➤ Tony Little has operated Blossom Apartments without the required Mississippi registration, and his unpaid water bill left residents without water for more than two weeks. State records show he paid off tax liens by March 11 and highlight years of noncompliance — further legal action may follow if the investigation continues. FOX 40
