- ➤ Councilman Kenneth Stokes held a press conference on Monday after Mary Mitchell’s SUV was shot at while she drove home from church on Sunday, where Mitchell, with her two daughters present, said she praised God that no one rode with her and Stokes urged merging five city departments to free up $5 million for more police officers—he warned that shootings at churches and homes now make our streets unsafe—while planning to meet with the council on a new budget. - ➤ A Silver Alert has been issued by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation for 41-year-old Elliott Washington, who is 6'5" tall, weighs 200 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes after he was last seen at noon on July 1 in the 700 block of Rose Street—his family says he suffers from a medical condition that may impair his judgment.
