CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Ron Christopher Allen, 52, was denied bond by Jackson Municipal Court—less than a day after he allegedly fatally shot his estranged wife in the Westwood Apartments leasing office—and he is now held at Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond. FOX 40
- ➤ Authorities from Pearl Police, Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, Madison County Police and the Rankin County Emergency Operations Center are searching the wooded area near Jenkins Park in Pearl for two missing children—aged 10 and 8—who were reported missing between 5 and 8 p.m. WAPT
- ➤ Capitol Police responded to a 12:15 a.m. call on Aug. 2 about a shooting on Taylor Street where two individuals were injured by gunshots and taken to a nearby hospital—no arrests were made. WLBT News
- ➤ A vehicle recovery worker was shot in Jackson while trying to locate a vehicle near TV Road and Gertrude Drive (10:30 p.m. Thursday) and was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. FOX 40

- ➤ Mayor John Horhn said Thalia Mara Hall will reopen in the next 30 to 60 days after officials install a new fire curtain that is on order following mold cleanup—long-term plans include installing a new elevator. Residents hope the theater will soon host shows and events again. FOX 40
- ➤ On July 24, 2025, Drew St. John was sworn in as Commissioner for District II at MDWFP’s headquarters in Jackson and began his five-year term, appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate—he is also known as the founder of Deep South Precast and a dedicated conservation leader. FOX 40
- ➤ A neglected house at 2300 Margaret Walker Alexander Drive near the Evers Home has overgrown grass, a caved-in roof, and one intact room with remnants, and it will go to auction in August for unpaid taxes. Investor Viking Investments said they do not cut the grass+ leaving it to the city, and officials noted outdated records+ that make enforcing repairs difficult in the area. FOX 40
