GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • JXN Water cut off water at Chapel Ridge and Blossom Apartments after overdue bills left tenants without service, forcing many to seek new housing amid neglect from property owners. • Drew St. John was sworn in as MDWFP Commissioner for District II in Jackson on July 24th at the MDWFP Headquarters—he will serve a five-year term and bring his experience as a founder and Mississippi State University alumnus to help conserve Mississippi's natural resources.  FOX 40
  • A historic home at 2300 Margaret Walker Alexander Drive will go to auction in August for unpaid taxes, marking the seventh year in a row that neglect has left it in disrepair—city records show outdated tax sale laws have enabled investors to avoid cleaning up the property. Local officials say the cycle of blight continues as investors take a chance on unpaid penalties rather than restoring these long-ignored homes.  Mississippi Today
