ENVIRONMENT NEWS

Environment Masters’ General Manager Ben Nalty (a local expert) recommends cleaning the outdoor unit (washing coils off) and closing blinds to reduce indoor heat load.  FOX 40
  • Officials at the Jackson Zoo are giving animals cold water and open access to air-conditioned enclosures as Monday's temperatures are expected to soar into the 90s (with a heat index up to 120) to help them cope with extreme heat. The zoo closed for two days last week due to high temperatures and does not plan a special closure today.  FOX 40

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Police Chief Joseph Wade told the City Council on Tuesday that Jackson struggles with the state’s Open Carry Law amid persistent calls reporting youths with guns; he noted that while the law only applies to adults, it still creates serious challenges as authorities report daily incidents. REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Yesterday Regions Bank’s affordable housing group financed veteran developer Vitus Group LLC to acquire and update three Jackson properties known as the Jackson Trio — which include Village Apartments, Commonwealth Apartments, and Madonna Manor featuring townhomes, garden-style apartments and a 13-story high-rise for seniors among 613 units in 77 buildings near I-20 and I-220. The developments will use a Payment-in-Lieu-of-Taxes program to offer affordable units to residents earning 50% to 80% of the area median income, including 149 senior units, and mark the 14th project the group has financed with Vitus since 2018.  WAPT
