  • Jackson Public Schools welcomed the first day of school yesterday at Bailey APAC Middle School after extensive renovations that added a new roof, updated air conditioning, improved drainage, updated classrooms and library. The new cellphone policy allows students to bring phones only on the bus if they are silent, and parents can call the JPS Hotline (601-960-2781) for registration and back-to-school questions.  WAPT
  • Yesterday, Jackson Public Schools superintendent Errick L. Greene visited Callaway High and North Jackson Elementary to greet students on the first day of school and enforce a stricter cell phone ban—aimed at reducing bullying and miscommunication.   • After months without child care vouchers, the Mississippi Department of Human Services will resume voucher distribution by easing earlier restrictions—an extra state allocation of $15 million may support about 2,500 vouchers while nearly 5,000 children remain on the waitlist.  Mississippi Today
