  • On Easter Sunday, 19-year-old Miles Wheeler was injured when his Chevrolet Suburban was hit on Northside Drive at the Normandy Drive intersection and survived because two unknown Hispanic men helped free him from the vehicle—his family is now searching for them to give thanks.  FOX 40

BUSINESS NEWS

  • UPS is offering drivers a buyout that pays $1,800 per year of service with a minimum of $10,000 and requires local drivers to decide by July 31—Teamsters union representatives say legal complaints will be filed for contract violations as UPS restructures its network.  FOX 40

CRIME NEWS

  • James Bailey and his son helped after Rudy Warnock crashed his truck on I-20 near Pelahatchie when he tried to take his own life after a corruption conviction—police took him to the University of Mississippi Medical Center and he is now held at the detention center with sentencing set for November 18.  FOX 40

CULTURE NEWS

  • WLBT News was honored by the Green Eyeshade Awards for excellence in journalism, winning first in explanatory reporting and public service video journalism and third in investigative reporting for its recent investigations. The awards recognize top journalism in the southeastern U.S.—a win that marks a significant achievement for the station.  FOX 40

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Attorney Drew Martin said residents of Chapel Ridge Apartments should plan to move out since the city could not secure a new management firm after talks with local groups failed. A police sweep was conducted at the complex a day after a previous report, but its impact remains unclear.  FOX 40
  • Governor Tate Reeves appointed Dr. LaWanda Baskin as a member of the Mississippi Board of Nursing and she was sworn in on July 18 in Ridgeland — her term runs until June 30, 2027.  FOX 40
  • Jackson's new SP Plus Parking meters generated $443,483.70 in revenue from May 1, 2024, to June 30, including $313,910 from parking fees and $129,573.70 from citations with 12,005 tickets issued. Ward One Councilman Ashby Foote said the council will review the meters' revenue at its next Finance Committee meeting.  FOX 40
