Good morning, Jackson. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 17th of July.

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new study found that only 14 of 44 Jackson restaurants served genuine wild-caught shrimp while 30 served imported shrimp, even though menus claimed local Gulf shrimp—testing occurred from June 23 to 26 just before the seafood labeling law went into effect on July 1.  FOX 40

CRIME NEWS

  • Two men died at Raymond Detention Center in July after suspected drug overdoses, with 32-year-old Jerome Robinson dying on July 7 and 23-year-old Trevon Clincy on July 9—interim Coroner Jeramiah Howard reported no visible signs of trauma—and state autopsies will determine the cause as federal courts continue to oversee the center.  WAPT
  • A federal jury convicted former Canton engineer Rudy Warnock and former commissioner Cleveland Anderson on bribery, fraud, and conspiracy charges in a corruption trial that began last week. They will be sentenced on November 18 — with Warnock facing up to 50 years in prison and Anderson up to 10 years — as probation officers prepare pre-sentencing reports.  FOX 40

CULTURE NEWS

  • Crowds gathered at the Two Mississippi Museums to learn about B.B. King’s life—his journey from working in the Delta to achieving fame during the celebration of his 100th birthday. Attendees also noted that proposals to rename I-55 as a B.B. King Memorial Highway remain unresolved.  WLBT News
  • The National Folk Festival announced six additional Mississippi artists who will perform in downtown Jackson from November 7–9. The free three-day event will feature about 300 artists on up to six outdoor stages and will mark the Mississippi NAACP’s 80th annual convention along with the 100th birthdays of B.B.
