- ➤ On July 4, 23-year-old Gabriel King was fatally shot on the 900 block of Cooper Road in Jackson, and police later arrested a fifth suspect when 16-year-old Justus Taylor (charged with murder, no bond) was taken into custody after earlier arrests of four other suspects (22-year-old Daniel Taylor, 24-year-old Cameron Russell, and 17-year-olds Jaquavion Clark and Justin Taylor). - ➤ The Jackson Police Department is investigating a carjacking on Woodburn Street near McDowell Road where at 1:30 p.m. today three men armed with what appear to be assault rifles allegedly took a couple’s black Nissan Altima with tag MAJ 786—officials are reviewing evidence. WLBT News
- ➤ A 16-year-old was arrested July 14 and charged with murder after the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Gabriel King on Cooper Road on July 4 — police said the incident stemmed from a dispute over a female — while a 17-year-old was also charged. WAPT

A public visitation will be held July 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Jackson Memorial Funeral Service—on Woodrow Wilson Avenue—followed by a musical celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. at Greater Fairview Baptist Church before her funeral is held today at 11 a.m. at Greater Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Faith Church and livestreamed online. - ➤ A federal judge ordered Jackson to provide records on how nearly $90 million from a Siemens settlement was spent on its water and sewer system.
