ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Tuesday morning, Jackson Fire Units and AMR blocked one lane on Mcdowell Road during a house fire that injured a firefighter who was taken to the hospital—officials say the cause is under investigation.  WAPT

  • Mississippi’s annual tax-free weekend will begin Friday, July 11 and run through Sunday, July 13 for shoppers to save on eligible clothing, footwear, school supplies, and other items priced under $100—online, by mail, and over the phone qualify for the tax break.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Tuesday’s Jackson City Council meeting, Mayor Horhn held his first session—crowded and featuring new leadership appointments, including Ward 4 Councilman Brian Grizell as council president and Ward 5 Councilman Vernon Hartley as vice president. He said his main goal was to finalize a budget of over $400 million—aiming to strengthen the fire and police departments while restoring the city’s bond rating.  FOX 40
  • Gov. Reeves announced that voters will choose new legislators on November 4 when two lawmakers became mayors and one resigned—candidates must qualify by August 21 with a runoff scheduled on December 2 if no one wins a majority.  Mississippi Today

  • NFL player Jeffery Simmons joined the campaign at a Monday morning ribbon-cutting at Jackson Medical Mall—where a new naloxone vending machine providing 500 doses of opioid overdose medication was installed—to expand local access to lifesaving treatment.
