CRIME NEWS

  • Aziza Young, wanted for the July 4th shooting death of her boyfriend Adrione Triggs, was arrested in Adam’s County Monday afternoon—she will face charges of murder and auto theft.  FOX 40
  • A jury was selected after nearly one full day of questioning at the Thad Cochran Federal Courthouse for the federal bribery trial of former Canton city engineer Rudy Warnock and ex-CMU official Cleveland Anderson (indicted more than three years ago), and opening arguments will begin today.  WLBT News
  • Police investigated multiple killings over the July 4 holiday—arresting Aziza Young for the fatal shooting of Adrione Triggs and charging four others in a gas station homicide that left Gabriel King dead, with Young set to appear in court Tuesday morning.  FOX 40
  • Capitol Police are investigating a shooting on Wilmington Street in Jackson after officers responded at 3:19 a.m. Sunday and found two victims with gunshot wounds who later died, with no arrests made.  FOX 40

CULTURE NEWS

  • Gospel singer Mosie 'Mama' Burks, a celebrated lead with the MS Mass Choir who inspired international audiences, died at 92. She performed across many countries & left a lasting legacy with her soulful tracks and humble spirit.  FOX 40
  • Jackson local fiddler Andrew Dillion performed at the Two Mississippi Museums on Sunday, playing blues and folk tunes that filled the hall with energy—he also shares his love of music by teaching at Spann Elementary. Dillion will perform again on August 8 at Martin’s Downtown with a local blues band.  FOX 40

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jackson’s police department is now NIBRS-compliant—making it the largest agency in Mississippi to update crime reporting—and it will send monthly crime statistics online to state and federal agencies to improve resource allocation after five years of inconsistent data releases.  FOX 40
  • All Mississippi courts have been connected to the electronic system, letting attorneys file briefs online and the public view documents for a fee — or visit courthouses to check records for free. This change completed nearly a 20-year effort to modernize the courts and improve transparency.  Mississippi Today
