  • The Jackson Fire Department battled an overnight fire that began around 2 a.m. on Friday at the Retreat at Lakeside Apartments on Sykes Park Road in South Jackson & declared one building a total loss.  FOX 40

CRIME NEWS

  • Mother Lacey Shannon was shot seven times at the Fayette Day Festival on May 31 and claims her two sons were wrongly arrested for a mass shooting that injured eight and killed Rayshaude Hudson + the suspects were denied bond during their initial court hearing in Warren County.  FOX 40
  • Two people were shot and killed on Fourth of July in Jackson—Gabriel King was shot at a gas station near Cooper Road and Rainey on South Jackson and Adrione Triggs died on AME Logan Street—and neighbors ask Mayor John Horhn to increase police patrols to curb the violence.  WAPT
  • A federal judge denied a motion to dismiss a bribery-related charge against former Canton engineer Rudy Warnock and his alleged co-conspirator Cleveland Anderson from a scheme in 2016 and 2017 — their trial will begin Monday.  FOX 40
  • The Jackson Police Department began investigating a deadly Fourth of July shooting on Friday at the 1100 block of AME Logan Street—victim Adrione Triggs, 45, was shot and pronounced dead at a local hospital while his next of kin was notified.  FOX 40
  • A Jackson man — 23-year-old Gabriel King — was shot and killed on the 900 block of Cooper Road on Friday, the Fourth of July; police are investigating the homicide and have notified his next of kin.  WLBT News

CULTURE NEWS

  • A special event at Fondren Presbyterian Church confronted Mississippi's painful history of racial violence as dramatic readings, music, and a moving soil ceremony honored lynching victims. The program linked Frederick Douglass’ Fourth of July speech with the 1937 Duck Hill lynchings—highlighting Black resilience and calling for community healing.  WAPT
