- ➤ The former Eudora Welty Library in Jackson was demolished — almost all of its walls had fallen — to clear the North State Street site for a new green space with a play area, gathering space, walking trails and water fountain. - ➤ Jackson held a series of events to honor civil rights leader Medgar Evers’ 100th birthday; the four-day celebration began yesterday and will continue until Sunday at the Jackson Convention Complex. - ➤ A 23-year-old woman, Karah Perkins Potter (granddaughter of civil rights leader Dr. John Perkins), was fatally shot on East Northside Drive in Jackson early Sunday, June 22, and she died in the hospital on Tuesday after stepping in to help someone while her memorial service is scheduled for July 2 at New Horizon International Church. - ➤ A man is in critical condition after being shot at his home in North Jackson—police report an investigation is underway. WLBT News
- ➤ Jackson Police investigated after a person was shot at a Shell gas station off Ridgewood Road on Wednesday night — the victim was taken to a local hospital while four persons of interest were questioned at police headquarters. FOX 40
