- ➤ A Leake County man 32 year old Robert Tanner Pigg was arrested and charged with capital murder after a 3 month old boy died of suspected child abuse—Sheriff Randy Atkinson said officers launched the investigation after a June 18 call reported that the baby fell off a bed and was not breathing, and the child died after being rushed from a Carthage hospital to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson last Sunday. - ➤ Two men were arrested on murder charges after Jackson resident LaJarvis Ruffin was fatally shot on June 19 in the 5600 block of Shaw Road—Grejuan Allen faces murder, armed robbery, and house burglary charges while Jederrion Walton is charged with murder. FOX 40

- ➤ A recent U.S. District Court monitor report found that conditions at the Raymond Detention Center have worsened since the last inspection, with staffing levels far below requirement + cell windows and other facilities in key pods broken and unsafe. Sheriff Tyree Jones said he is working to fill vacancies amid budget cuts while patrol officers are supplementing duties + multiple assaults and injuries have raised safety concerns. WLBT News
- ➤ Attorneys argued against House Bill 1193 in the federal courthouse as the law, which removes DEI practices from schools and colleges, may harm teacher and student rights—Attorney Rob McDuff said it is vague and could disrupt education.
