  • Dozens of bikers rode from Jackson to Carthage on Saturday morning to honor retired JPD Officer Richard Polk at his gravesite—he was a motorcycle instructor who died in a crash in June 2014. Members of Alpha Phi Alpha joined the ride to support his family and remind drivers to ride safely—this marked the 10th annual memorial ride in his memory.  FOX 40

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Eugene Carney, owner of CBS Tire and Sons, said he recycles all his tires properly even as tens of thousands are dumped illegally, and he pays $600 every seven to 10 days to dispose of them — a high cost that stresses his business. He supports Councilman Vernon Hartley's plan to attach disposal records to business licenses — hoping to curb the illegal dumping in Jackson.  FOX 40

  • A suspect—Grejuan Allen, 31—was identified in connection with a deadly shooting at Park Springs Apartments on Shaw Road, where police responded last Thursday morning after LaJarvis Ruffin was fatally shot and issued a warrant Tuesday charging him with murder, armed robbery and house burglary.  WAPT
  • Jackson Police investigated a shooting that occurred Tuesday morning at the intersection of Raymond and Siwell Roads+ the perimeter of the Auto One car care business was taped off and a man was seen in handcuffs+ with no further details released.  FOX 40

  • Blues legend John Primer will return home with the Real Deal Blues Band to perform at the National Folk Festival in downtown Jackson from November 7 to 9. He will play fan favorites and songs from his new album Grown in Mississippi — a celebration of his lifelong love for the blues.  Mississippi Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Reeves and the Court of Appeals rejected petitions from death row inmate Richard Gerald Jordan—Mississippi’s longest-serving inmate—allowing his execution to proceed today after the U.S. Fifth Circuit upheld a lower court decision, as deputy chief of staff Cory Custer said clemency was not granted.  FOX 40

HEALTH NEWS

  • Canopy Children's Solutions broke ground on expanding its CARES Center on West Street in Jackson to add 20 new psychiatric residential beds and build five residential cottages, raising capacity from 60 to 80 beds for children aged 6 to 17 with severe mental health challenges. The project received $20 million from the state legislature — $5 million of congressionally directed funding to fill a critical gap in care.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
