  • The Jackson Police Department investigated a homicide at Park Springs Apartments on Shaw Road when 30-year-old Lajarvis Ruffin was shot while changing locks on his child's mother's door on Thursday morning at midnight—his remains were sent for autopsy and no arrests have been made.  FOX 40
  • On Friday, a federal judge in Jackson ruled that Mississippi can proceed with the execution of death row inmate Richard Gerald Jordan on June 25—if the first 500 mg dose of Midazolam does not render him unconscious, the corrections commissioner must notify the court.  FOX 40
  • Former Pearl Police officer Christopher Taylor Loftin was booked on one count of grand larceny for allegedly stealing $32,000 from the home of a dying woman after responding to a medical call—bail was set at $50,000.  WLBT News

  • The former Pearl PD chief has died — local residents have expressed concern about a Jackson man held by ICE. State regulators approved a new HIV prevention medication — it is expected to help lower new HIV infections.  FOX 40

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA approved a new HIV prevention drug called Yeztugo that only needs to be injected twice a year and was tested in Jackson with UMMC, Open Arms Healthcare Clinic, and My Brother’s Keeper—doctors say it offers a discreet option to address high local HIV rates.  FOX 40
  • Mississippi is in the stroke belt where strokes cause many deaths and African American men face higher risks from diabetes and high blood pressure — epidemiologist Warren Jones said someone in the state dies from a stroke every three to four minutes — and he urged residents to check their blood pressure and adopt healthy habits.  WAPT
