A man was shot and killed early Thursday while changing locks on a woman's door at Park Springs Apartments on Shaw Road—his cousin heard gunshots before finding him dead—and police continue to investigate the homicide.

The Jackson Police Department is searching for a suspect after 53-year-old Troy Howard Jr. was shot multiple times at the 1000 block of Gentry Street and pronounced dead at UMMC when officers received the call on Wednesday at 3:41 p.m.—the suspect, a black male wearing all black, was last seen walking north on Livingston Avenue.

Mississippi lawmakers approved nearly $700,000 for a pilot program to hire three or four attorneys and support staff in the state’s 5th Circuit Court District.

Gov. Tate Reeves had until June 19th to act — if approved, the program will enhance early public defense for indigent felony clients in seven counties.
