- ➤ Nonprofits and the Jackson Redevelopment Authority broke ground on a new green space on Farish Street in Jackson on June 5 designed to serve as both a community gathering place and a heat sponge. The project will soon start tearing down brick walls and planting trees — funded by a $1.5 million USDA grant, volunteers will monitor temperatures for five years and a stage is planned by early next year. - ➤ Jackson Police said the manager of the Oyo Hotel in South Jackson shot a 30-year-old man—who had spent the day at the hotel and entered the manager’s daughter’s room after refusing to leave—and arrested the suspect while the victim remained in critical condition. WLBT News

- ➤ Jackson is set to host the 82nd National Folk Festival from Nov. 7-9 in downtown Jackson—over 300 artists will perform at up to 6 outdoor venues and the festival will be free to attend.
