CRIME NEWS

  • Tony Levon Hill, 40, pleaded guilty to sale and trafficking of Fentanyl and received a 10-year prison sentence in Madison County Circuit Court following his September 2023 arrest in Ridgeland-when officers found 60 pills during a traffic stop.  FOX 40
  • Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade announced a crime summit scheduled for June 12 at 9 a.m. at the Jackson Convention Center to tackle rising gang violence and note a drop in homicides from 48 in 2024 to 25 in 2025.  WAPT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Country music star Randy Travis and his wife Mary announced a large investment to redevelop the old MetroCenter Mall off Highway 80 in Jackson—state officials discussed potential support for the project. Gov. Tate Reeves noted that the couple also visited the Governor's Mansion to review their plans, adding momentum to the economic development effort.  WAPT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, Ted Henifin delivered his first State of the Water System address at the Mississippi Museum of Art and outlined steps to fix leaks, replace water lines, and rebuild public trust in Jackson’s water. He noted survey results that showed trust rising from 29% in spring 2023 to 56% in spring 2024—progress that officials expect to continue as repairs restore full plant capacity.  FOX 40
  • The legislature finished the state budget and ended the special session on Thursday — and now the Governor will review it before signing. Some senators said they had concerns about funds for health and extra money for the Attorney General, which may affect future bills.  WLBT News
  • U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate will hear Jackson citizens’ concerns about a proposed water rate hike when they may offer testimony on June 16 at 1 p.m. at the federal courthouse downtown — utility manager Ted Henifin said further instructions on how to participate will be provided soon.  Mississippi Today
  • Jackson sewer manager Ted Henifin plans to replace Veolia with Jacobs Solutions after saying the company did not properly manage wastewater treatment. Veolia officials argued that the city's aging sewer system—rather than their work—caused bypass incidents and pointed to a $5 million repair effort made at the plant.  FOX 40
