  • The Jacktown All-Stars lost their regular practice home at a local church after residents complained and now practice at George Kurts Gymnasium but must move when it becomes crowded. Band organizers plan to meet with local officials — who have so far not responded — to secure a permanent home for the group.  WLBT News

CRIME NEWS

  • The Jackson Police Department is investigating after a man crashed his vehicle near Elton Road just after 6 a.m.—he then attempted to steal a car from a Good Samaritan who had stopped to help, and police are checking if a weapon was involved.  WLBT News

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday, the Soul Food Tour came to Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson and offered soul food, live music, games for kids, and vendors (local favorites enhanced the day). JSU football coaches said the event proved the field can host more than football (opening the door for new community events).  WLBT News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mississippi lawmakers ended the regular session in April and will meet in a special session soon to pass a budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1. They must work fast and pass a responsible budget with clear details (addressing the extra costs to taxpayers).  Mississippi Today
