EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tougaloo College and Jackson State University in Jackson faced major funding cuts that led to 36 lost scholarships and five job losses at the Jackson Heart Study center, with plans to end the undergraduate training program later this summer until the cuts were reversed in May—raising hopes for the program's future despite broader federal challenges. Faculty remain cautiously optimistic about the renewed $1.7 million grant, even as experts warn that future federal policies could undermine decades of research and minority career opportunities.  Mississippi Today

  • After weeks of missed trash pickup and a high water bill, city leaders cleaned up Chapel Ridge Apartments and set up temporary bins to help residents.   • UMMC will move many of its clinical services and cut its space by about 75% at Jackson Medical Mall by May 2026, so Jackson-Hinds health center will soon leave the facility.
