- ➤ Jackson police released surveillance photos on May 7 to identify two persons of interest linked to the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Zephaniah Thompson on Holden Street — both men are seen wearing dark-colored hoodies and jeans, and anyone with tips should call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS — officials say the investigation is active. - ➤ The City of Jackson began demolishing the old Coca-Cola Bottling Plant on Highway 80 on May 1 to prepare for future economic development. City leaders expect the building will be fully torn down in about 30 days — they continue to seek additional funding for clearing other blighted properties. Mississippi Free Press
- ➤ State Auditor Shad White said that the Mississippi Department of Health gave over $850,000 in federal funds to three nonprofits—Immigrant Alliance for Justice and Equity, Love Inside for Everyone, and Love Me Unlimited 4 Life—without keeping proper records on spending. The report found most funds meant for HIV testing and prevention were used on events and non-testing expenses. FOX 40
