- ➤ Jackson Police said they solved 20 of 21 homicide cases worked by May 8 out of 27 reported in the city, with 22 handled by the department and 5 by Capitol (Chief Joseph Wade credited technology and federal partnerships for this success) while repeat offenders were arrested (reducing the chance of further killings). - ➤ Jackson man Kenny Wiggins—a convicted felon—was found guilty of domestic aggravated assault and felon in possession of a firearm for shooting his girlfriend during a dispute on August 30; he faces up to 30 years in prison as sentencing remains unscheduled. FOX 40

- ➤ Dr. Marcus Thompson resigned as president of Jackson State University, effective immediately, according to a Wednesday announcement by the IHL Board of Trustees — his resignation prompted the board to name Dr. Denise Jones Gregory, a Jackson State graduate with over 20 years in higher education, as interim president. - ➤ City Attorney Drew Martin on Tuesday sent a letter stating Interim Third-Party Manager Ted Henifin must stop plans to replace Veolia with Jacobs Solutions—he must consult with his office first to avoid violating a court order. Henifin, who took charge of Jackson’s water and sewer systems in 2023 under a federal court order, had raised concerns about Veolia’s performance at a recent city council meeting. WLBT News
- ➤ Thursday night, independent Jackson mayoral candidates—Zach Servis, Rodney Depriest, and Kim Wade—held a final forum at the E-Center where citizens wrote questions on crime, education and small business issues while some major party candidates did not attend.
