EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mississippi has boosted its reading and graduation rates over many years and now is 16th in the nation after major teaching changes began in 2013. A new law, Senate Bill 2294, will shift school funding to meet each student's needs starting next school year—continuing the state's education reform.  WAPT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jackson City Council approved Tuesday the purchase of a former daycare at 4617 Terry Rd to become a community center for local meetings. The building may cost less than $50,000 & renovations are estimated at $100,000 to $150,000, with city staff handling maintenance.  WLBT News
  • Hinds County Sergeant Chris Moses died on Monday at age 58. He served in the sheriff's office for over 20 years and his colleagues remember him for his leadership and compassion.  WLBT News
