CRIME NEWS

  • A Mississippi woman was killed after her body was found beaten and stuffed in a trash can, and police arrested her son in connection with the case.  WLBT News
  • Former Canton city engineer Rudy Warnock and former CMU commissioner Cleveland Anderson will go to trial on June 9 in downtown Jackson for charges linked to a nearly decade-old bribery scheme—Warnock faces three counts including conspiracy to commit bribery and wire fraud and seeks a bill of particulars—while Anderson is charged with two counts of conspiracy.  FOX 40
  • The Mississippi Supreme Court rejected an appeal from Jayme Lynn Tubbs, who was convicted after a 2019 roadside ambush in Quitman County that left two people dead and evidence showed she laughed while dismembering a victim’s body — she remains in prison at a state facility.  FOX 40

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rankin County Board of Supervisors rescinded the mobile home ordinance passed earlier that took effect on April 15 after over 350 residents protested during Monday’s meeting, with Supervisor Sid Scarbrough calling the measure a mistake.  FOX 40

HEALTH NEWS

  • The University of Mississippi Medical Center has opened a new burn unit in the Batson Tower to treat adult and pediatric burn patients — expanding the Mississippi Burn Center which admitted over 350 patients last year; plans are in place to launch tele-burn consultations soon.  WAPT
