CRIME NEWS

  • Police say an altercation at a Jackson apartment complex led to a shooting — one person was shot and a suspect taken into custody.  WLBT News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jackson will host the 82nd annual National Folk Festival downtown from November 7-9, a free three-day event + a celebration of blues, bluegrass and go-go music by 300 artists. Officials said the festival will draw 60,000 to 80,000 visitors + vendor applications are open until May 19.  Mississippi Today

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Today, Jackson was selected to join the Southern Cities Economic Initiative and received a $15,000 grant from the National League of Cities through its philanthropic partners—this program will provide technical help and training to boost economic mobility while the planning phase runs until October 31 and may lead to an implementation phase through December 2027.  City of Jackson

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • An investigation by WAPT’s National Investigative Unit shows that Mississippi’s roads and bridges are in poor shape and cost drivers about $1,400 a year—especially in Jackson, Vicksburg and Hattiesburg. Experts warn that fair-condition bridges could worsen in the next decade if repairs are not made—full findings will be released in early June.  WAPT
