COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Nearly three months after an intentional fire targeted the Beth Israel synagogue, the congregation welcomed some members back on Sunday to view ongoing rebuilding work as local denominations provided temporary worship spaces. WAPT
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Mississippi construction jobs have grown by about 20% since the pandemic, adding 9,500 positions, and state officials are launching apprenticeship and training programs to meet ongoing demand for skilled workers (including support from Build Mississippi). The new initiatives aim to help workers earn higher wages and support their families. Mississippi Today
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Jackson State University placed students from Alexander Hall in temporary housing after electrical issues arose from Saturday’s storms. The Fire Marshal recommended the hall remain unoccupied during repairs and the university will provide residents with meals, transportation, and security for about 48 hours. WLBT News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ MEMA, working with FEMA and local partners, is opening six Disaster Recovery Centers and seven Disaster Survivor Assistance sites from noon today to aid residents affected by January’s ice storm. The centers provide in-person registration, assistance details and referrals (some sites will operate longer based on demand). WLBT News
