  • City leaders met Friday at the Jackson Zoo to discuss plans to reimagine the zoo and Livingston Park; the city will issue a request for information next month to gather ideas for a modern zoo with smaller exhibits + interactive attractions to boost family fun along West Capitol Street.  WLBT News
  • Metro Master Gardeners have been nurturing plants in local gardens for months (preparing for their annual fundraising sale) to support local horticultural programs; the event will take place soon.  WLBT News

CULTURE NEWS

  • A hip-hop concert featuring T.I., Ludacris & Rick Ross set for May 9 at Veterans Memorial Stadium has been postponed in Jackson due to low ticket sales. Visit Jackson's Yolando Clay-Moore noted that walk-up buying has hindered early purchases and added that a new date is yet to be announced.  WAPT
  • Jack Thornell, the Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer who captured iconic Civil Rights images, died at 86 on Thursday in Metairie (Louisiana). Born in Vicksburg (a Mississippi city), he began his career at a local Daily News and left a legacy of historic photos.  WLBT News

  • Officials approved $13 million for improvements to LeFleur’s Bluff State Park in Jackson and said the funding will support new trails and facility upgrades — work that is expected to begin over the coming months.  WLBT News
