ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Three men capsized while towing a disabled boat near Brown’s Landing on Ross Barnett Reservoir last Friday around noon—local agencies rescued them and confirmed no injuries.  FOX 40
  • On Saturday, a 63-year-old Jackson man died from smoke inhalation in a kitchen fire — the fire affected only a small part of his home — according to the coroner.  FOX 40

CRIME NEWS

  • On April 18, Jackson Police Department’s Narcotics Unit & the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics executed a search warrant at a Capitol Street residence where officers recovered multiple firearms, 1,700 grams of powder cocaine, 10 grams of crack cocaine, 1,500 grams of marijuana and about $200,000, and one suspect was taken into custody.  FOX 40
  • Jackson police are investigating a homicide after a fight inside a home on the 100 block of Savanna Street in South Jackson turned deadly when shots were fired around midnight on April 19—51-year-old Steckie Black was fatally wounded as the suspect fled the scene.  FOX 40
  • One person died after a drag racing event in Copiah County when a suspect lost control during a chase with a trooper who was taken to a Jackson hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while authorities investigate the incident.  WAPT
  • Jackson police arrested 48-year-old Calvin Horton—who had been on the run for nearly ten years—for murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and unlawful firearm possession after new evidence connected him to the 2016 killing of Tyshun Robinson on Belvedere Drive; he was denied bond on Friday.  FOX 40

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mercy House Adult and Teen Challenge will open a new addiction recovery home for women at the old Rebul Academy in Learned, rural Hinds County. The facility will house 20 to 40 women and allow them to bring their children and is expected to open within the next few months.  FOX 40
