- ➤ On Tuesday, a man was sentenced after shooting a Lyft driver seven times and stealing her car — Congressman Bennie Thompson held a town hall while JSU’s Sonic Boom of the South performed at Coachella. FOX 40
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Dontarius Magee pleaded guilty to shooting Lyft driver Brandy Littrell seven times and stealing her car in November 2021, and he will serve 30 years in prison with five years on probation. FOX 40
- ➤ Two Capitol Police officers, Steven Frederick Jr. and Michael Lamar Rhinewalt, have been indicted for manslaughter for the fatal shooting of a Jackson man on Sept. 25 in Hinds County—prosecutors ruled that the self-defense claim was unreasonable as Frederick resigned after a DUI charge while Rhinewalt remains on duty. - ➤ A Jackson man was arrested after firing his gun at police on Clark Street near Clark Avenue and Englewood Boulevard after 6 p.m.—he ran into an abandoned house and was taken into custody by several law enforcement agencies. FOX 40
- ➤ The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation issued a Silver Alert in Jackson for Buford DeMarco Strong (51), a man with a medical condition that may impair his judgment who was last seen at 11 a.m. on April 13 in the 1300 block of Perkins Street in Hinds County. FOX 40

- ➤ Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said renovations on the Russell C. Davis Planetarium in downtown Jackson may finish by the end of the year while a $21 million project will add new exhibits, seats and high-tech doors—designed like a Star Trek entrance—that join the venue to the Arts Center of Mississippi. - ➤ Hinds County officials question whether the receiver at Raymond Jail is still needed—arguing the federal takeover relied on old evidence. The county filing requests that receiver duties be narrowed to focus solely on addressing constitutional rights issues while current jail conditions are reviewed. FOX 40
- ➤ Governor signed House Bill 916 to set new state rules that will limit vape product sales before the end of the year.
