ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents complained last week about a strong water odor that disrupted daily life, and now the smell has disappeared, according to one homeowner (Dorothy Helm). Officials have not commented as residents plan to keep monitoring water quality.  WAPT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mississippi lawmakers have passed a bill that will ban cell-cultured dairy products starting July 1 — a move designed to shield local farmers, though some small farm owners say the law does not ease ongoing pressures from rising costs and strict regulations.  Mississippi Free Press
  • City officials are exploring a public-private partnership to help people experiencing homelessness move from encampments into stable housing. The plan, led by Clutch Consulting, would cover first and last month’s rent for about 300 residents if nearly $8 million in donations is raised.  Mississippi Today
  • The Hinds County Sheriff's Office has begun its third annual Citizens Academy, offering 15 participants a week-long behind-the-scenes look at patrol operations and training at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science. The academy runs through April 13 and ends with a graduation ceremony.  WAPT
  • Mississippi officials say policy changes may soon cut child care assistance, potentially leaving thousands of families without support. Lawmakers are reviewing program funding to decide its future.  WLBT News

  • Jackson State football has scheduled three night home games at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium to start at 6 p.m. in September.
